Yes, today January 17th is Hot Buttered Rum Day! After a recent trip to Vail, CO where the temperature hit a breezy -12° degrees, I was reminded that warmed alcohol beverages are particularly popular this time of year and quite tasty.
So, today is your chance to celebrate and take advantage of some of the nontraditional warm cocktails that your patrons will go wild for. For example, Silver Lake’s historic El Cid Restaurant, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary, will be serving the Hot n Creamy Sailor that was created by Mixologist and General Manager Laura Ann Masura.
Hot n Creamy Sailor
1 stick of REAL organic salted butter
1 jar of Laura Ann's Jams Maple Pumpkin Butter
1 cup of organic raw sugar
1 cup of light brown sugar
2 tsp of pumpkin spice (equal parts ground ginger, cinnamon & nutmeg with a pinch of ground clove)
1 bottle of Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
Cream together the sugars & the butter (I use my kitchen-aid mixer for this part) till creamy. Add spices & pumpkin butter till well combined. Put magical mixture in a glass bowl or jar and put in the fridge until almost firm.
In your favorite mug add:
2 tablespoons (or more if you have a big mug) of the mix
3oz of Sailor Jerry's spiced rum
Then top with boiling water, stir WELL
Top with a dollop of fresh whipped cream
