XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas adds to its impressive resident lineup with the introduction of 23-year-old DJ, Mackenzie Johnson, better known as MAKJ. Learning to scratch under the tutelage of the late great DJ AM, he has since grown into one of the stand-out young talents in the industry today. His debut at XS took place on July 12 with several additional dates throughout the year.
MAKJ uncovered a passion for mixing at only 15 years of age. Honing and perfecting his skills over the past several years, he has deejayed at some of the premier venues in the country including Avalon, Liv, Pacha and Tryst. He also performed at this year’s Ultra Music Festival in Miami and the 2011 IDentity Festival.
“After several dates at Tryst, we saw the power of MAKJ’s sets and knew he would be a great addition to the XS roster,” said Jesse Waits, managing partner of XS and Tryst. “He has a distinctive style and a true talent for remastering tracks. As one of the emerging talents in the scene, I’m excited to watch him grow and develop even more at XS.”
MAKJ has played direct support to greats such as Avicii, Armin van Buuren, Steve Aoki, Morgan Page and more. With the guidance of these veterans in his pocket, he is now thriving in the realm of original production with a slew of new tracks slotted for release over the course of 2013, including releases on Hardwell’s Revealed label, the Bingo Players’ Hysteria Records, Nicky Romero’s Protocol and Michael Woods’ Diffused. Additionally MAKJ hosts a weekly radio show on Clear Channel’s Evolution channel which can also be heard on 101.7 FM in Boston and online through iHeartRadio.
"It was such an honor when Wynn brought me on as a resident at Tryst, and I have been having a blast playing there the past six months,” said MAKJ. “I am beyond thrilled to be moving on up to XS now. It's been a dream and goal of mine to play at this club, and I'm absolutely elated to be able to now call these prestigious venues my home."
