NEW YORK, N.Y. (August 12, 2010) – Pernod Ricard USA, a leading producer, importer and marketer of prized spirits brands in the United States, announces the introduction of Olmeca Altos, a distinctly superior 100% Blue Agave Tequila of uncompromising authenticity from the stunning Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico. Created by Master Tequilero Jesus Hernandez in collaboration with internationally acclaimed bartenders Henry Besant and Dre Masso. Olmeca Altos is making its U.S. debut in Chicago and Denver.
Located in Arandas, the Olmeca Altos distillery utilizes the centuries-old Tahona method to create tequila of unmatched quality. After being dried in authentic brick ovens, the pinas, or agave hearts, are crushed with a volcanic stone. The resulting aguamiel is then double distilled in traditional copper pot stills to produce tequilas that are smooth enough to sip yet rich enough to preserve the unique taste of the agave in margaritas and other cocktails.
Juli Falkoff, Brand Director for Olmeca, Pernod Ricard USA states, “Olmeca Altos is truly a superior product that offers bartenders an attractive and great tasting tequila perfect for creating premium tequila cocktails. It is also deliciously smooth and rich and is wonderful enjoyed neat.”
Olmeca Altos Plata offers enticing notes of cooked agave with a sweet hint of citrus. Its flavor is sweet to taste with vibrant notes of lime, lemon and cooked agave with a well-balanced, pleasant finish. Olmeca Altos Reposado, aged in American oak barrels for 6-8 months, is robust with fresh aromas of sweet orange and grapefruit that compliment notes of cooked agave, vanilla and wood. Its flavor offers an initial sweet sensation with hints of fresh tannins and citrus. The body is full and smooth with a long, elegant and well-balanced finish.
“We are very excited to introduce this wonderful tequila to Chicago and Denver. These two incredible cities have a great appreciation for super-premium tequilas and their bartenders are known for their dedication to the craft, their creativity and their openness to new brands and cocktail concepts,” concluded Falkoff. “Olmeca Altos is truly a gem that was crafted by bartenders for bartenders. We look forward to its discovery by the trade and consumers.”
