A Message from the President
A special note from the new USBG National President David Nepove, San Francisco.
As a USBG member, what you get out of the Guild may be equal to or greater than what you put into it! As USBG members, we are part of a fraternity of bartenders who all share a common goal of responsibility to craft not only the highest quality cocktails, but to create a positive and memorable experience for the guests we serve.
It is great to be a part of an organization with the mission to share in creativity, passion and dedication to the craft with its members and the community at large. This environment challenges us as members to continually hone our skills and find new ways to share and expand our knowledge. When we share experiences and techniques with fellow members, we motivate each other to raise the bar to become better bartenders and better ambassadors of our profession. It stimulates us to become teachers and mentors, passing this love of our industry to others who are hungry to learn. The more we learn, the more successful we will become. The USBG brings all of these benefits to its members.
As the new President of the USBG, I (and the council) welcome all suggestions to improve our Guild. We look forward to working closely with each chapter, to help grow membership in each chapter and to deliver productive events to our members. We are looking to unite the chapters, grow our camaraderie across state borders and ensure all future events and competitions are done with plenty of notice and preparation. We look to start new chapters where large pockets of passionate bartenders reside.
As we move onward through 2010, we will focus on creating new relationships with brands large and small, green and sustainable, historically relevant and many new endeavors. We want to challenge our sponsors to educate us on the uniqueness of their brand and the category they represent.
We look forward to finding new and exciting ways to challenge ourselves and USBG chapters to continue to do what we do best! I am excited to be surrounded by bartenders who share my joy in being a part of this rewarding business, and I am prepared for the challenges and opportunities this society brings me and all of our members.
“To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them.” Charles de Montesquieu - (French Politician and Philosopher, 1689-1755)
