The Bombay Sapphire Lounge will open in Downtown Miami on Oct. 19. The Lounge is located in the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and is the first Bombay Sapphire-branded venue. The venue will feature signature cocktails from Bombay Sapphire mixologist Milo Rodriguez, including The Jazmin (Bombay Sapphire, fresh lemon, Campari, Cointreau) and Bombay Santiago Punch (Bombay Sapphire, Bacardi 8, Prosecco, fresh lime, brown sugar, blueberries, fresh thyme). The Lounge seats 60 people inside and 50 more on the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Parker and Vann Thomson Plaza. www.arshtcenter.org.
Located in New York City, the unnamed “bar in the cellar” of the Andaz 5th Avenue, designed by architect Tony Chi, opened on Monday. The bar, made with two oversized 14-foot Claro Walnut wood slabs, features small-batch spirits, wines by the glass and small plates. The cocktail menu features drinks created by Alchemy Consulting mixologists, including seasonal cocktails like The Cellar Door (Pimm’s No.1, lemon, Bergamot Syrup, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram) and signature cocktail the Skinny Tie (Tito’s Handmade Vodka, white wine, Regan’s Orange Bitters). The exposed beams and high ceilings give the bar an industrial New York feel while a brick wall from an 18th century Connecticut farmhouse lines the entrance and basement walls. www.andaz5thavenue.com.
Bijou, a two-floor fine dining and nightlife experience, is making its debut in Boston’s Theater District in October. The 8,500-square-foot, 636-capacity restaurant and nightclub has a theatrical castle entrance in the foyer. “The Parlor,” on the second floor, has a lounge feel with gold, beige and honey-colored accents. The third floor is a European style nightclub split into “The Dark Bar” and “The Dream,” with two bars, a DJ booth and banquettes throughout. Cooperstown Sports Bar, a country-themed restaurant and dance hall is opening in Mesa, Ariz., this month. The venue is a 30,000-square-foot restaurant and entertainment space. Brooklyn Winery, an 8,000-square-foot facility located in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood, is not only a winery but also a wine bar and private event space. Wine making begins this fall, and the winery will stock its own wine as well as beer and other wines from around the world at its wine bar when it opens at the end of 2010. www.bkwinery.com.
Veranda, a Mediterranean restaurant located in New York’s Sheridan Square, focuses on traditional Greek food with an Egyptian twist. Executive Chef Kevin O’Connell uses local and organic produce from farms and artisanal producers in the New York metro area, and mixologist Bratislav Glisic created seven original cocktails featuring Mediterranean cordials. These include the Mediterano (vodka, aperol, lemon juice, agave nector and mandarin puree) and the Lollobrigida (Ketel One Oranje, lime cordial, aperol and a splash of club soda). Minus5 Ice Bar is opening inside the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The bar, tables, benches, walls and glasses are all made of ice. The menu consists of six vodka-based cocktails and one tequila cocktail. A 10-foot Mount Rushmore ice replica adorns the venue, along with other ice sculptures. There are two semi-private dining rooms including the 1,200-square-foot ice bar that seats 120. www.minus5experience.com.
