NTN Buzztime is looking to crown the Smartest Bar in the United States and Canada. Buzztime’s 3,900 bars and restaurant customers will be quizzed about anything from The Sciences to The Past. The bars will compete against one another in order to qualify for regional competitions in June and September. By November, the best bars and clubs will compete in the finals, where the winners will receive a trip to Vegas, the Smartest Bar Champion Trophy, a Buzztime hosted party and a banner designating the location as Buzztime’s Smartest Bar for 2011.
David Parsley is the new Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Management at Brinker International Inc. Parsley’s responsibilities include overseeing purchasing, distribution and quality assurance of Chili’s Grill & Bar and Maggiano’s Little Italy.
Paul M. Mangiamele was named President and Chief Executive Office at Bennigan’s Franchising Company; he’ll succeed David Goronkin. Mangiamele previously worked as President and Chief Executive at Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina.
Sam Stanovich has been named Manager of Industry Relations for the National Restaurant Association. Previously, he had been Director of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s ServSafe Alcohol program.
Michael Jordan, veteran restaurateur in the California area, is the new Vice President of Food & Beverage for The Ranch Restaurant & Saloon in Anaheim, Calif. Jordan has worked as the Global Manager of Wine Sales and Wine Education for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts worldwide, as the General Manager of Napa Rose restaurant in Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., and most recently as the President of The Beachcomber Restaurant Group. In his new role at The Ranch he’ll develop all food and beverage operations.
The executive team at Aveníu Brands announced that Trellis Wine Group will be the only agent representing its portfolio of wine and spirits brands to on-premise national accounts. Trellis Wine Group promotes family-owned, artisan-focused wineries and Aveníu Brands’ portfolio focuses on family-owned brands, meaning Trellis is a perfect fit for Aveníu Brands and its clients.
Rémy Cointreau USA, Inc., increases its distribution agreement with The Edrington Group. The Edrington Group will exclusively represent the full range of the group’s brand portfolio in the United States, which includes Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky, The Macallan, Highland Park, The Famouse Grouse and Brugal Rum.
Scott Blazek is the new Senior Vice President, Sales at Heineken USA; he’ll report to Chief Executive Officer Dolf van den Brink. In his new role, Blazek is responsible for increasing and maximizing profitable depletions and market share, and achieving distribution goals for Heineken USA’s portfolio through its more than 300-member sales force and distributor network.
Miron Sargent was promoted to Corporate Vice President Sales at Glazer’s Distributors while Mike McLaughlin joins Glazer’s as Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing Texas. Sargent will be responsible for Glazer’s corporate performance and will report to Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Shawn Thurman. McLaughlin will be accountable for all of Glazer’s Texas wine and spirits business; he’ll report to Executive Vice President John Palatella.
Kevin Roberts was appointed Senior Vice President of Wirtz Beverage Nevada. He’ll replace Ray Norvell as he assumes the Vice Chairman role in the company. Roberts will report to Wirtz Beverage Group President Rocky Wirtz.
Cool River Café, with three locations in Texas, along with Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver Miles Austin partnered with TOMS for the “Style your Sole” event last Thursday. Guests had the opportunity to buy a pair of TOMS shoes, and either personally decorate the shoes or have an artist create a one-of-a-kind design for them; TOMS donated a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair purchased.
Young's Market Company and Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) are entering into a definititive agreement to combine alcohol beverage distribution operations in Arizona called Young's Market Company Southwest, LLC. Mark Moser will be President; most recently he was the president of RNDC's Arizona operation while Sheldon Alexendar, former Vice President and General Manager of Young's Market Company of Arizona, will take on the role of Vice President of Sales of the new entity.
