national beer wholesalers association announces 2010-2011 board of directors officers
ALEXANDRIA, VA – The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) is proud to announce the Board of Directors Officers for the 2010-2011 term. Larry Del Papa Jr., president of Del Papa Distributing Co., Inc., in Galveston, Texas, will take the helm as Chairman of the Board. Other Board Officers include:
· Vice Chair Steve Lytle of Columbia Distributing Co. in Portland, Oregon
· Treasurer Bob Archer, president and CEO of Blue Ridge Beverage Co., Inc. in Salem, Virginia
· Secretary Greg LaMantia, member/manager of L & F Distributors, LLC in Texas and New Mexico
· Immediate Past Chair Mitch Watkins, president of Watkins Distributing, Sales & Service in Twin Falls, Idaho
As Chair, Del Papa will lead the Association as it works to advocate for the effective system of state-based alcohol regulation and educate elected officials, regulators, media and the public about the important role of beer distributors. He has served on the NBWA Board of Directors since 2003 and has held all elected positions, giving him a full background and working knowledge of the Association’s goals and agenda.
Like many leaders of beer distribution companies, Del Papa began his career at Del Papa Distributing as a teenager, sweeping floors and cleaning the warehouse. As a “hands-on” leader, he has worked in every facet of the beer distribution business, from building orders and operating a forklift in the warehouse, to delivering, merchandising and selling beer. In 1988, he took the reins as President of Del Papa Distributing, where he continues to oversee the strategic direction of the company. The company is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
NBWA and America’s beer distributors support the state-based system of alcohol controls that ensures an orderly marketplace and works to protect the public by providing transparency and accountability in the manufacture, distribution and sale of alcohol. Beer distributors serve as the critical link in the American beer distribution system sourcing products from brewers and importers and delivering products to state-licensed retailers. This effective system provides American consumers with the widest choice and variety of products in the world – nearly 13,000 labels of beer – and works to ensure that only safe, fresh beer reaches American consumers of legal drinking age.
