Angostura Bitters is offering working bartenders a chance at $5,000. To enter, submit two cocktail recipes and a photo of each cocktail; one cocktail must be rum-based, and a minimum of five dashes of Angostura must be used in each recipe. Cocktail recipes will be judged based on appearance, aroma and taste. Finalists will be flown to Chicago to compete in the North American Finals from Oct. 10-12. For more info, check out Facebook.
Barenjager Honey Liqueur has kicked off its national annual bartender competition. Bartenders as well as amateurs are invited to submit innovative cocktails using Barenjager. Grand prize includes a trip for two to Oktoberfest in Munich and $1,000. Judges will score all submissions prior to selecting the top six recipes to move on to the final round. Finalists will mix off at a private event in New York on Sept. 19. All guests will be asked to cast their vote for the best cocktail, and the audience favorite will take home a check for $1,000. London’s 69 Colebrooke Row and New York’s Apotheke are collaborating in the Auchentoshan Switch competition, offering to host winning mixologists. The U.S. winner will work at 69 Colebrooke Row and learn firsthand the world of cocktail and food science, while the winner of the UK competition will head to Apotheke in New York City. Entering the Auchentoshan Switch requires a video and two drinks: a lemonade and an Old Fashioned made with Auchentoshan Three Wood. Bartenders who wish to enter must record themselves making the two drinks and “should be as engaging as they dare to captivate the judges’ attention.” Videos can be no longer than four minutes and must be received by Aug. 31 via www.auchentoshan.com/switch.
Bombay Sapphire is in the midst of 2011’s “Most Inspired Bartender Search.” Members of the Sapphire team are visiting accounts to invite select bartenders to participate in this contest; the winner will be featured in the 2011 Men of the Year issue of GQ Magazine and invited to participate in the United States Bartenders' Guild “Most Inspired Bartender” event in Las Vegas from Sept. 11-13. The fourth annual St-Germain Can-Can Cocktail Classic is on, challenging bartenders to develop an original cocktail recipe with St-Germain utilizing seasonal ingredients from local regions. The editorial staff at Edible, along with L’Equipe St-Germain’s Rob Cooper, will select one winner in each market where Edible publishes a magazine. Deadline is Aug. 31.
