Sports Night Cocktails

If there’s anything a sports fan at your bar or club is after, it’s a cold beverage. When placating the intense anxiety that comes after kick off, a cold beer sometimes just doesn’t cut it. To add an extra twist to Super Bowl Sunday or any game day for that matter, add ingredients to a regular lager or IPA with some fun beer cocktails. After all, changing the taste of beer with some pineapple juice, almond syrup or even maple syrup may change the course of the game.

Pineapple Jalapeno CheladaPineapple Jalapeno Chelada

1 lime wedge, squeezed
8 fresh jalapeno slices
3 oz. pineapple juice
1 Corona
Lime wheel and fresh jalapeno slice, for garnish

Squeeze lime into a chilled Mondo mug with salt rim and drop in glass. Add 8 fresh slices of jalapeno. Fill mug half way with ice, and fill with Corona. Top with 3 ounces of pineapple juice. Lime wheel and fresh jalapeno slice for garnish.

1 bottle Victory Prima Pils beer 

1 oz. ginger-infused gin*
1 oz. fresh lime juice 

1 oz. simple syrup

1 twist lemon, for garnish

Pour the beer into a Pilsner glass. In a shaker, combine ginger-infused gin, lime juice and simple syrup. Add ice, shake and strain into the glass. Garnish with the twist of lemon.

*Ginger-Infused Bluecoat Gin (makes 24 ounces)
½ lb. ginger, peeled against the grain and cut into ¼-inch slices

1 750-milliliter bottle Bluecoat Gin

For the ginger-infused Bluecoat Gin, combine the peeled ginger with the gin in a blender and puree. Using a fine-mesh strainer, separate the pulp from the gin. Store the gin in a tightly sealed bottle.

1 Tbsp. kosher salt

1 Tbsp. celery salt

1 Tbsp. sugar

1 oz. Sombra mezcal

¾ oz. lime juice

3 dashes Cholula hot sauce

1 dash celery bitters

1 bottle Victory Pilsner beer

1 tsp. orange zest

1 tsp. lime zest

Rim a Collins glass with salt, celery salt and sugar. In a shaker, add the mezcal, lime juice, hot sauce, celery bitters and ice. Shake and strain into glass. Top with beer and garnish with orange and lime zest.

1 part beer
1 part cider

In a highball glass, pour all ingredients carefully down the side to make two distinct layers.

Gingered Pear

1½ oz. Blue Ice Vodka
½ oz. pear liqueur
¼ oz. fresh lime juice
4 oz. ginger beer
Fresh pear, sliced, for garnish

Add vodka and pear liqueur and lime juice to a highball glass. Add ice, fill with ginger beer and mix with a swivel spoon. Garnish with a fresh pear slice.

1 oz. Appleton Estate Reserve Rum

¾ oz. almond syrup

¾ oz. fresh lime juice

1 dash angostura bitters

Brooklyn Lager Beer

Add all ingredients, except for beer, to a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a chilled pilsner glass. Top with the beer. Garnish with a lime wheel and mint sprig.

Dark Wood Flip

3 oz. Abita Nut Brown Ale

1 egg yolk

¼ oz. maple simple syrup (3 parts water to 1 part maple syrup)

1½ oz. Eagle Rare 10-year-old Bourbon

Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel Bitters, for garnish

Fresh grated nutmeg, for garnish

Pour ale into a pilsner glass and set aside. In a cocktail shaker, combine egg yolk, maple simple syrup and bourbon. Shake vigorously without ice (dry shake); then add ice and shake again. Double strain into the pilsner glass with the ale. Garnish with Whiskey Barrel Bitters and a light dusting of fresh grated nutmeg.

1½ oz. Patrón Silver tequila
½ oz. Grand Marnier
3 oz. sour mix
1 Corona
Lime wedge, for garnish

Fill shaker with ice and add first 3 ingredients. Shake and strain into a pint glass over fresh ice. Top with Corona. Serve extra beer on the side.
