Do you know your way around a red eye, black eye, dead eye and lazy eye? How about café au lait, crema, Cubano, con leche and con hielo? Does C8H10N4O2 mean something to you? If so, we hope you’ve had your daily dose and are wide awake because it’s the first annual International Coffee Day!

Numerous countries have their own coffee days throughout the year. For instance, Colombia celebrates National Coffee Day on July 27th and has done so for the past 5 years. However, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) has joined forces with its 75 member states to create International Coffee Day which is meant to promote free trade coffee, raise awareness for the plight of coffee growers and also celebrate coffee, coffee growers and coffee drinkers. The ICO is encouraging the use of the hashtag #InternationalCoffeeDay and has created a website offering more information.

Bar and restaurant owners are in a unique position to offer creative coffee-based cocktails to those celebrating today’s coffee holiday. We’ve combed through our extensive recipe database to share some recipes with you. We hope these will either inspire you to create your own variations or excite your guests!
