Promos We Love: Can't-Miss Cinco de Mayo EventsMarch 28, 2012 By: Alissa Ponchione
Cinco de Mayo brings out some of the most dedicated partiers. These revelers are looking to spend the day honoring their Mexican brethren with things undeniably Mexican. Think food, drinks, music and all-day fun to get you started when planning a promo. The big day is about six weeks away, so there’s still enough time to plan and execute a promotion that will be remembered for years to come. Following are some of our favorite Cinco de Mayo promos, events and specials from past and present that we can’t get enough of:
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at El Jardin in San Jose, Calif. The four-day event features music from Son De Kali DJ, Mexican shaved ice, Margarita Sno-Cones, ceviche and tequila shooters to celebrate the big day.
In Dallas, Cinco de Mayo rules. El Ranchito hosted a Mariachi band and offered $5 El Jimado tequila shots, $3.50 regular Margaritas, $4.50 large Margaritas, $2 drafts, $2.50 domestic bottles and $3.50 drafts for the May 5th promo last year. Not to be outdone, Urban Taco offered $5 house Margaritas, Sangria, Bloody Marias, Limonada Corrupta, Tequila Slammers and Silver Azul Blanco tequila shots, as well as half-priced drafts.
In Reno, Nevada, the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino is starting the party at 11 a.m. on May 5. The annual celebration includes live entertainment, popular Latin bands and muscians, amateur boxing, Mexican dancing and Mexican food.
San Diego is commemorating their Mexican neighbors with a pub crawl that spans more than a dozen venues along the Gaslamp District. The deal involves $2 draft beer, two-for-one Margaritas and $4 tequila shots. After patrons buy their tickets, they can choose between the May 4 Happy Hour Cinco de Mayo Pub Crawl starting at 5 p.m. or the noon to 2 a.m. All Day & Night Pub Crawl. Sombreros aren’t required but are desired.
Las Vegas knows how to throw a party, that’s for sure. Last year, Agave, a place known for its tequila, threw its annual celebration, featuring bands, DJs, $3 Modelo drafts, $5 100% blue agave Margaritas and $3 tacos.
In Sin City, partygoers can celebrate at Eve nightclub. The Eva Longoria-owned club will host a sexy senorita competition. The winner will get a $5,000 vacation at Marquis Los Cabos Resort in Mexico.
Join Planet Mambo in Newport, Ky., for its first Cinco de Mayo celebration. Live bands, including Orquesta Kandela, Tropicos and more will perform. Latin DJs Jorge and Aikon will perform. Advance tickets are $15; for the day of the show, tickets are $20.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at B.B. King Blues Club with five of New York's top comics, featuring Joe Vega, Eric Nieves, JJ Ramirez, Sara Sontreras and Kyle Grooms. A portion of the proceeds benefit DKMS, an organization whose mission is to save lives by recruiting bone marrow donors for leukemia patients.
