Lake Sonoma Russian River Velley Chardonnay Just Released
Wine’s pleasures lie in the details: varietal fruit, concentration, complexity, texture, structure, harmony, balance, finish and more. Each of these elements on its own has charm, but when they achieve equilibrium – bolstering one another seamlessly – the result is captivating.
Sonoma County’s very cool Russian River Valley combined with the cool 2011 growing season produced Chardonnay grapes of vibrant fruit and superb natural acidity – ideal for Lake Sonoma Winery’s style of Chardonnay. After gentle whole cluster pressing and brief settling to eliminate tannins and assure purity, the juice was racked into small French oak barrels to ferment. The young wine remained in barrels for a relatively brief seven months to gain oak complexity, during which extensive stirring of the yeast lees was used to enhance body and integrate oak character.
The 2011 Lake Sonoma Russian River Valley Chardonnay’s fresh, forward citrus and tropical fruit aromas are deftly complemented by hints of vanilla and brioche dough. Vibrant lime and nectarine highlight the medium-bodied flavors, together with delicate toasty oak and dried herb notes.
