The Shelf (October 2010)
Courvoisier is launching three new Cognacs: L’Essence de Courvoisier, Courvoisier 21 and Courvoisier 12. L’Essence de Courvoisier is made from rare blends of exclusive crus in the Cognac region and is packaged in a handmade Baccarat crystal bottle reminiscent of the signature Courvoisier teardrop silhouette. The Connoisseur Collection is comprised of Courvoisier 21 and Courvoisier 12, two Cognacs named after their age statement — the time when age and cru meet at the peak to make the perfect combination. www.courvoisier.com.
Cold River Gin
Maine Distilleries introduces Cold River Gin, an all-natural, ground-to-glass, gluten-free and handcrafted gin. The gin is batch-distilled in a copper pot still in Freeport, Maine, using potatoes grown nearby and water from western Maine’s Cold River Aquifer. The distillation process creates a very high-proof alcohol and is blended with water used in vodka blending to create a smooth, traditional-style gin. Its juniper, orange and cardamom flavors and smooth, savory finish make it a good stand-alone beverage or cocktail base. www.mainedistilleries.com.
Redbreast Irish Whiskey

It’s matured for 15 years in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and fresh American bourbon whiskey barrels. The whiskey flavors are strong and assertive. Redbreast is available nationally. www.pernod-ricard.com.
