The National Restaurant Association's annual What’s Hot culinary forecast predicts menu trends for the year ahead by surveying nearly 1,300 professional chefs – members of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) – and the results for 2014 are in. The top restaurant menus trends for 2014 focus on local sourcing, environmental sustainability and nutrition - children's nutrition in particular. These trends have been gaining momentum for several years, indicating that these wider themes influence the national culinary scene. MORE>>


TechnomicHigh-Priced Adult Beverages Grow On-Premise Despite Overall Slowdown
Premium adult beverages are providing momentum to the on-premise channel despite cautious consumers. Higher-priced spirits and beer categories in particular are growing in restaurants and bars, although the channel is slowing overall according to Technomic's just-released 2013 BarTAB Report. The on-premise channel grew in total volume (0.7 percent) to reach 1.9 billion gallons and sales rose 3.5 percent to $97.3 billion in 2012. Projections call for slight declines in volume in 2013 and 2014, but continued dollar growth. MORE>>


HootersHooters Co-Owner to Acquire Spoon Bar & Kitchen
Chanticleer Holdings Inc., which owns and operates Hooters restaurants in international emerging markets, has agreed to acquire the one-unit fine-dining Spoon Bar & Kitchen in Dallas. The Charlotte, N.C.-based Chanticleer said Thursday that it intends to buy the 58-seat seafood restaurant from Irving, Texas-based CapRock Services, a financial services company. WineWine Sales Up in Limited-Service Sector
Restaurant Sciences LLC, an independent firm that tracks food and beverage product sales throughout the foodservice industry in North America, reported that the sales of on-premise wine fell 2.6 percent from May to October of this year, compared to the same timeframe in 2012. Despite the overall decline, wine sales saw a 10 percent growth in family dining and limited-service restaurants during this period. MORE>>

Islands Restaurants and Beanstalk Data jointly announced a licensing and servicing agreement for the beach-inspired casual-dining restaurant company to utilize Beanstalk’s new CRM Marketing Master product. The CRM Marketing Master is a real-time software-as-a-service (SAAS) module that offers business-to-consumer companies like Islands a simple, unique, and effective way to aggregate all of their existing silos of customer data into a single location.  Many business-to-consumer companies typically have multiple silos for customer data: one for mobile app users, another for web, email, SMS subscribers, and social media.
