National Restaurant Association NRA Urges Senate Action on Patent Reform
The National Restaurant Association and 36 state restaurant associations have called on the U.S. Senate  to support reforms to provide restaurants and other technology end-users with relief from abusive infringement lawsuits brought by patent trolls. Patent assertion entities, also known as PAEs or patent trolls, are organizations that seek to profit by claiming ownership of patents on widely used business tools or technologies. MORE>>

DiageoBack in Growth Mode, DC&E Keeps the Lifestyle Brands Coming
It’s been a little over year since Diageo reorganized its U.S. wine business, Diageo Chateau & Estat, naming Claudia Schubert president of the unit in September 2012 following a high-profile rollout of three new Millennial-targeted wine brands—Butterfly Kiss, Rose’n’blum and Stark Raving—earlier that summer. In the 12 months through this past June, DC&E reversed the trend on a portfolio that had been in decline, posting net sales up 4% on a volume increase of 1% (the previous year, the division’s sales had slipped 7% by value and 5% by volume). Chili'sChili's Grill & Bar to Roll Out Delivery
Chili’s Grill & Bar is introducing delivery and will roll out the service to 450 restaurants by the end of November, executives said Wednesday. The casual-dining chain had been testing delivery and will begin offering it permanently in more than a quarter of its 1,552 units, executives of parent company Brinker International Inc. told analysts during a call to discuss first-quarter earnings. National Restaurant AssociationOctober Job Growth Positive, Despite Government Dysfunction
In his latest commentary, the National Restaurant Association's Chief Economist Bruce Grindy analyzes the latest jobs report.  Both restaurants and the overall private sector registered solid job growth in October, as the government shutdown had little impact.  However, restaurant operators’ outlook for economic conditions sunk to a nine-month low. Job growth surprised to the upside in October, as the private sector shrugged off the partial government shutdown to register its largest monthly gain in eight months.  According to preliminary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the private sector added a net 212,000 jobs in October, the strongest performance since a gain of 319,000 jobs in February.
