Red RobinRed Robin Appoints New Chief People Officer, Senior VP
Cathy Cooney has been appointed senior vice president and chief people officer for Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc., the company said Wednesday. Cooney replaces Bill Streitberger as CPO, but the senior vice president role is new to the position, the company said. Before joining Red Robin, Cooney served as executive vice president of human resources for Carefusion, a medical technology company. MORE>>


Restaurant Sales Dip for Second Month in a RowNational Restaurant Association
Restaurant sales continue to slow, according to preliminary figures from the U.S. Census Bureau. Eating and drinking place sales totaled $45.3 billion in June on a seasonally-adjusted basis, down 1.2 percent from May’s revised sales volume of $45.8 billion. MORE>>

Outback SteakhouseOutback Steakhouse Opens Prototype Unit in North Texas
Outback Steakhouse has brought its prototype building to the North Texas market with the opening of a new unit this week in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Hurst. The new 245-seat unit, which was built from the ground up, replaces a 1991 unit that had its parking lot truncated by highway construction. Hooters has redesigned its signature owl logo as part of an ongoing brand overhaul, the company confirmed Thursday. The new logo takes on a sleeker, more modern look, just like the company’s redesigned stores. The goal of the overall brand refresh is to attract more customers and to welcome more people — women, men, baby boomers, families and teenagers — to the Hooters brand, said chief marketing officer Dave Henninger.
