Kenwood Captures Top Prize for its Russian River Valley Pinot Gris

September 26, 2011

KENWOOD, SONOMA COUNTY, CA – Kenwood Vineyards was awarded one of the highest honors presented this past weekend by the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. The winery received the James Guymon Memorial Award earning the “Sweepstakes White Wine” distinction for its 2010 Russian River Valley Pinot Gris. Competition for this year’s Harvest Fair was particularly strong with over 1,000 wines competing. The judges awarded three Sweepstakes – white, red and specialty wine - winners, 39 Best of Class awards, as well as 10 Double Gold, 138 Gold, 376 Silver and 311 Bronze awards.

Kenwood’s Senior Winemaker, Pat Henderson, describes the 2010 Russian River Pinot Gris as “fresh and vibrant.” The forward aromas combine just-picked pineapple, papaya and lemon with a hint of almond. Lithe, refreshing lemon and pineapple flavors segue into a bright note of lime in the dry, lingering finish. This is a luscious wine without peer, delicious served well-chilled, either on its own or with a wide variety of picnic fare. With limited production of 1,250 cases, the 2010 Kenwood Vineyards Russian River Valley Pinot Gris is available in select markets nationally at a suggested retail of $16. It also may be purchased at the Kenwood Vineyards tasting room or directly from the Kenwood Vineyards website, www.kenwoodvineyards.com.

In addition to the “Sweepstakes” distinction for the Pinot Gris, Kenwood also received two “Best of Class” honors for its 2008 Sonoma County Cabernet and 2010 Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc.

“This is a fantastic honor for Kenwood Vineyards,” remarked Gary Heck, President and Owner. “We are proud to be a part of Sonoma County’s world-class wine growing region.”

Established in 1970 in the Sonoma Valley, Kenwood Vineyards produces premium wines that showcase the world-class quality and character of Sonoma County vineyards.
