CHICAGO, IL - On August 29, Joe and Mac Boumaroun, brothers and restaurateurs best known for bringing Aladdin's Eatery to Chicago, will unveil the city's newest gourmet dining establishment. 25 Degrees, an upscale burger and wine bar. Located in Chicago's flourishing River North neighborhood, 25 Degrees puts a different twist on the traditional burger joint with the promise of an extraordinarily indulgent dining experience.
"We are thrilled to be opening 25 Degrees in Chicago and giving locals an opportunity to taste some fantastic burgers," says Owner Mac Boumaroun. "We're excited about creating an atmosphere where people will feel just as comfortable coming in for a cocktail or a glass of wine as they would for a full, indulgent meal."
Named for the difference in temperatures between a medium-rare and a well-done burger, 25 Degrees will be arelaxed yet elegant gathering spot focused on premium burgers. Executive Chef/Founder Tim Goodell, named a Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine in 2000, will lead the culinary vision of this distinctive restaurant,which offers a selection of signature burgers, as well as a build-your-own burger option with a variety of gourmet toppings, locally sourced artisanal cheeses and sauces alongside snacks, sides, salads and a substantial wine list. The atmosphere will exude a lively, stylish and sophisticated vibe, perfect for after work drinks, dinner with friends or a late night rendezvous.
25 Degrees promises to delight guests' senses while harmoniously blending Chicago's love for burgers, wine and distinctive cocktails. The lunch and dinner menu features chopped sirloin beef, veggie, tuna and turkey burgers ranging from$8 to $12. Guests can choose from 16 domestic artisanal cheeses, with a focus on local cheesemakers; more than a dozen house-made sauces such as chipotle, pesto and lemon dill; and gourmet toppings such as crispy prosciutto, fried egg, jalapeno bacon and roasted roma tomatoes to top off the burger. Partnered with the tantalizing burgers are sweet potato and regular fries, as well as a selection of dipping sauces, including gallego, garlic parmesan, herb aioli and tarragon remoulade. Epicurean guests looking for small bites after work or as part of a late night outing can enjoy snacks and sides such as chicken liver terrine, spicy tuna on crispy eggplant, potato and three cheese fritters, and bacon wrapped dates ($8 to $12). The menu also boasts several signature burgers, including:
1. Caramelized onion, vella toma, aderkasse reserve, arugula, bacon, thousand island
2. Roasted tomato, crispy prosciutto, burrata, pesto
3. Mezzo secco jack, hatch green chilli, chipotle, avocado
4. Yellowfin tuna, butter lettuce, crispy fried onions, spicy aioli
The beverage program offers a wine list with 20 selections, including 15 wines by the glass and an array of handcrafted specialty cocktails. In addition, a variety of draft beers, root beer on tap and a wide range of small-batch spirits, liqueurs, cordials and house-made mixers will be available. Guests can get nostalgic with a sweet selection of ice cream floats and spiked milkshakes, such as the Salty Caramel with Bulleit bourbon, butterscotch, vanilla bean ice cream and Hawaiian red sea salt.
"The menu will be retro but relevant in today's contemporary culinary world," said Chef Goodell. "For us, it's all about great burgers and snacks and iconic beverages made from the best ingredients."
Bordello Meets Burger Bar
With seating for 90, the 2,800-square-foot interior of 25 Degrees embraces a contemporary take on the bordello chic design aesthetic popularized by old Hollywood. The restaurant's glamorous décor takes a decadent turn, featuring French toile wallpaper, seats with carved and gilded details, diamond-patterned oxblood leather booths, chrome mirrors, black crystal chandeliers, polished mahogany wood and other items reminiscent of old-fashioned gentlemen's clubs. The bar will offer flat screen televisions showing the latest sports game, which are programmable for custom displays for special events, as well as a high-quality audio-visual system, perfect for meetings and private events.
"You really can't compare 25 Degrees to any other restaurant in Chicago," said Owner Joe Boumaroun. "We want guests to come in for an incomparable meal and for the nostalgia of glamorous times."
25 Degrees will be open on Sundays through Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; on Thursdays and Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 3 a.m. Reservations will not be accepted, but large groups and parties are encouraged to call ahead.
