Distilled Spirits Council Industry Briefing for Media and Analysts
The Distilled Spirits Council will present its annual industry briefing for the media and Wall Street analysts at a New York Yacht Club brunch, Wednesday, February 6, at 11:00 a.m.  In addition to presenting the newly released proprietary 2012 sales, volume and market share data, Distilled Spirits Council leaders will provide an overview of 2012 industry achievements and key challenges for the industry in 2013. MORE>>


Fine Dining Taps the Craft Beer Trend
More and more high-end restaurants are offering enhanced beer menus, putting them on a par with these concepts’ sophisticated wine lists. Take Morton’s, for example. The white-tablecloth steakhouse offers a range of beers from mainstream domestics and premium varieties, but it also includes vintage brews and ultra-premium crafts, trappists and lambics from around the world, including Lindemans Raspberry Lambic, Fuller’s Vintage Ale, Paulaner Hefe Wiezen, and an Orval Trappist Ale, which the chain calls one of the world’s finest beers. Diageo-United Spirits deal clearance 'work in progress': CCI
Fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India today described as "work in progress", the review of the application seeking nod for the Diageo-United Spirits deal. Competition Commission of India (CCI) is believed to have expressed reservations over the proposed Rs 11,166 crore purchase of a majority stake in UB group's United Spirits Ltd by Diageo Plc. Beam Inc. Posts Strong Results For 2012
Beam Inc. has reported a full-year net sales increase of nearly 7% for 2012, to $2.5 billion. Operating income for the year jumped 46% to $575.9 million, while net profits totaled $398.2 million. For the recently completed fourth quarter, Beam’s net sales rose 11% to $709.1 million, due mainly to growth generated by its thriving Bourbon portfolio and recently acquired Pinnacle vodka franchise. Ruth's Hospitality Group to expand to China
Ruth’s Hospitality Group Inc. will expand into China by the end of 2013, the company said Wednesday. The company has signed an agreement with Ko China Hospitality Limited to open four Ruth’s Chris Steak House restaurants in Shanghai and Beijing during the next three years. According to a statement, Ko China is a subsidiary of Hasmore Limited, a Ruth’s Chris franchisee-owner. MORE>>


U.S. Fights AB InBev With Tested Game Plan
The Justice Department in 2011 sank would-be deals involving H&R Block Inc. HRB +0.40% and AT&T Inc., T +2.07% after years with little merger litigation. Now the department is fighting Anheuser-Busch InBev NV's ABI.BT +0.03% acquisition proposal with a game plan developed in the earlier cases, casting the Budweiser brewer as a dominant player that wants to eliminate a scrappy rival and its disruptive pricing.
