BarSmarts LIVE Bartender Program Celebrates 25th EventJanuary 10, 2012 By: Nightclub and Bar
Pernod Ricard USA and BAR, LLC, recently completed their milestone 25th BarSmarts LIVE event in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 8. Since the program’s inception in 2008, the award-winning BarSmarts LIVE event has hosted more than 2,500 bartending and mixology enthusiasts from Boston to Los Angeles, Chicago to Austin.
BarSmarts ADVANCED targets major markets' mixology communities, which are committed to the profession of bartending. It is delivered to a select audience in the target markets through an exclusive BarSmarts ADVANCED home study kit that includes a workbook, mixology equipment (where legal) and instructions on how to complete the online pre-course work. The program culminates with the BarSmarts LIVE event for the program’s top performers in each market. The event is hosted by the esteemed BAR, LLC, partners, who include world-renowned spirit experts and mixologists Dale DeGroff, Steve Olson, Doug Frost, F. Paul Pacult, Andy Seymour and David Wondrich.
BarSmarts WIRED is the broader-reaching, 100% online format of the highly acclaimed program. More than 4,000 bartenders globally have participated in this web-based bartender program.
Paul Pacult, founding partner of BAR, LLC, commented, “We are proud and honored to celebrate the 25th BarSmarts LIVE event in Portland. BarSmarts has become the benchmark for the profession as a whole. The program represents a critical step in the industry’s quest for advanced knowledge and skills. The attendees are passionate and eager to seize the opportunity to learn from leaders in the field of spirits and mixology.”
A BarSmarts graduate from a previous BarSmarts LIVE event commented, “Even for the seasoned bartender, BarSmarts offers a great way to keep learning your craft. The program forces you to take another look at the information you think you know,” says Lynnette Marrero, DrinksAt6 and BarSmarts NY participant.
Suzanne Freedman, director of on-premise and BarSmarts for Pernod Ricard USA adds, “When we launched BarSmarts in 2008, our mission was to develop a stronger presence in the on-premise channel; and by helping bartenders to improve their skills, their bar service and provide their patrons with better service, we’re therefore helping our on-premise channel overall. BarSmarts has helped us achieve this goal and so much more. It is one of the most powerful and successful tools we have in our arsenal and has impacted more emerging bartenders and on-premise accounts than we ever dreamed possible. While the results have been overwhelming thus far, we realize we have just scratched the surface and look forward to exciting new BarSmarts initiatives that will extend the program’s reach even further.”
