Midtown Manhattan’s highly anticipated restaurant and lounge, NOIR, opened its doors June 4, 2012 adding to New York City’s thriving culinary and nightlife scene. Located at 151 East 50th St. between Lexington and 3rd Ave., NOIR offers a high-concept environment suited for clientele looking for an energetic lounge scene, power lunch spot and upscale dining venue, featuring contemporary American cuisine with French influences by Michelin Star Chef, Jean-Yves Schillinger.
Owner George P. Iordanou, of GPI Entertainment, is an industry force renowned for contributing to New York City’s highly competitive restaurant and nightlife scene. Past successes include owning a number of exceptional venues over the years, including the legendary One51, TAJ Restaurant and Lounge, and later partnering with the lifestyle brand Nikki Beach. Iordanou and Director of Operations, Anthony Basilio, continue that tradition at NOIR and offer a versatile venue that appeals to gourmands as well as those searching for a lively lounge atmosphere. “Noir brings together great food and an incredible environment,” Iordanou notes. “Whether it is a business lunch, romantic dinner or night on the town, the combined result is a restaurant and lounge that caters to all.”
Noir’s contemporary American menu is created by Chef, Jean-Yves Schillinger, one of France’s most renowned chefs, and owner of JYS, a Michelin star restaurant in his hometown of Colmar, France. At NOIR, he combines his classic French techniques with seasonal local ingredients for brunch, lunch, dinner and late night bites.
As the lights dim and the evening progresses, the dinner scene seamlessly transitions with DJs spinning the latest tracks through the state-of-the-art sound system. Guests can venture to the upstairs lounge and sip hand crafted and seasonal cocktails created by celebrated mixologist and Beverage Director, Adam Delgiudice, formally of Miami’s famed Florida Room, and named “Most Inspired Bartender” by the United States Bartender’s Guild in Miami. Cocktails include Manhattan En Noir, which combines Rye Whiskey, Tawny Port, Grand Marnier, Bitters and Vermouth and A Rose By Any Other Name, made of Rose Water, Orange Bitters, Cucumber Vodka, Gin and Vermouth. For those looking for a unique bottle service experience, NOIR offers a premium spirit cart served tableside with a selection of top shelf Scotches, Whiskeys and Cognacs, which are weighed and purchased by the ounce. Guests can choose from vodka, gin or rum punch bowls with seasonal fruit and the option to customize their bowls. NOIR also offers an extensive wine list that consists predominantly of domestic wines, as well as a selection of French, Italian and Spanish wines.
The distinctive look of NOIR was conceived by designer Andres Escobar, and harkens back to the days of old school glamour, featuring a soaring staircase, sweeping ceilings and beautiful gilded hand-painted frescos. The 10,000 square foot bi-level space also features an exclusive upstairs lounge, two DJ booths, two full-service bars and a glass encased wine cellar.
Built in 1926, the venue is rich in history itself, being once an opera house, speak easy and supperclub, bringing in classic star acts from Ginger Rogers, Desi Arnaz and Abbott and Costello.
