Tao Celebrates Five Years in Vegas — What’s Next?
Happy birthday, Tao! Celebrating five years in Las Vegas as a nightlife hot spot inside the Venetian and more than 5 million patrons through its doors, the birthday celebration on Nov. 6 upped the ante for one of the most successful nightclubs and restaurants in the world.
Front and center in the best spot on the dance floor were Tao Group’s Jason Strauss, Rich Wolf, Noah Tepperberg, Marc Packer and Lou Abin, celebrating, yet again, after Tao New York celebrated 10 years in business just weeks ago. A miniature cake replica of Tao’s infamous 16-foot-tall Buddha was presented while a model lounged in front of them as a human-cupcake-serving platter, complete with strategically placed pastries. Even though pool season is over, Tao Beach also opened for the evening because of the large number of attendees.
In addition to the venue’s trademark women in rose-petal-filled tubs and ladies lounging in lingerie, elaborately costumed performers and contortionists — some wearing little more than body paint — were spotted throughout the club on platforms and in birdcages. High above the dance floor, porcelain doll-esque women acted out a tea party scene for bizarre-yet-intriguing eye candy. While DJ Vice provided the soundtrack to the evening and female tourists in shaky shoes danced atop the club’s center platform, bottles of Champagne flew overhead on ziplines to VIP tables amongst a sudsy snowfall, adding to the more than 35,000 bottles popped to date.
Always a destination for celebrities and Hollywood socialites, the red carpet crawled with familiar faces, including singer Christina Milian, “Dancing with the Stars’” Karina Smirnoff, reality TV star and model Brittny Gastineau, Jack Osbourne and more.
But what does the future hold for the Tao Group in Las Vegas? Perceivably a strong one, as the group is moving along with and embracing the changing citywide trends of music-focused events. Both Tao and Lavo welcomed recent DJ/producer headliners Calvin Harris, Roger Sanchez, Eddie Halliwell, Sander van Doorn and more. Tao’s 20-year lease at the Venetian also is an indicator that they don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon, and the celebrity-driven events like Kim Kardashian’s annual birthday bash still bring in the bucks and the crowds.
In addition, Tao Group’s newest Vegas venture, Marquee will debut New Year’s Eve, at the Cosmopolitan, while Marquee New York approaches the seven-year mark. With Tao holiday weekend favorite Erick Morillo as a Marquee’s resident DJ and a heavy dance music focus, the New Year’s Eve grand opening will also include performances by Coldplay and Jay-Z. The 50,000-square-foot, multi-room, indoor/outdoor day and nightclub with a roof deck overlooking the Strip is just another way Tao Group plans to stay on top.
