Heineken USA Launches New "Star Bottle" Design
HEINEKEN USA, the nation’s leading upscale beer importer, officially announced that for the first time since 1946, Heineken has redesigned their world-class green bottle for U.S. consumers. The revamped “Star Bottle” is set to hit select New York State markets beginning mid-September, with a national roll-out slated to begin in March 2013 in on and off-premise locations. MORE>>

 


Bloomberg: Czechs Chase Illegal Alcohol after Tainted Drinks Kill
Czech police are uncovering a network of illegal alcohol producers and distributors after spirits laced with methyl-alcohol are suspected of killing as many as 23 people in the past two weeks. The police have charged 23 people with various crimes related to making and spreading poisonous substances, Martin Cervicek, police president, told reporters in Prague today. The government imposed an indefinite ban on sales of hard liquor across the country on Sept. 14 as police and customs officers search for the source of the contaminated beverages. MORE>>

Restaurant.org: Congress extends E-Verify for three years
Congress last week approved a bill extending the federal E-Verify program for three more years, through Sept. 30, 2015. President Obama is expected to sign the measure into law shortly. The E-Verify program, which allows employers to enter I-9 information into an online federal database to check whether newly hired employees are eligible to work in the United States, had been scheduled to expire this month. The program began on a trial basis in 1996, and was made available to employers in all 50 states in 2003. MORE>>

Decant: Austria faces huge quantity drop after devastating conditions earlier this year
As harvest starts in Austria winemakers are predicting a vintage with excellent ripeness but with volume down by nearly a quarter, as a result of millions of euros damage from catastrophic weather conditions earlier in the year. Heavy May frosts and severe hailstorms in May and July caused €22m in vineyard damages across the country, according to Österreichische Hagelversicherung (Austrian Hail Insurance). Regions that suffered most, especially the Kamptal and Weinviertel, which were hit by the frosts, and the hail-pummeled Steiermark, Burgenland and Thermenregion, fortunately have been compensated by a long, hot and generally sunny summer. Caesars Entertainment Reveals "The Quad Resort & Casino" As New Name for Imperial Palace
Caesars Entertainment revealed plans today to re-name the company's center-Strip resort currently known as Imperial Palace to The Quad Resort & Casino. Although guests will begin to see the brand transformation on property as early as November, the official conversion will be completed by Dec. 21, 2012 with renovation plans scheduled for finish by late 2013. Shanken: Cecchetti Wine Company Volume Up 40%, Projected To Hit 350,000 Cases By Year-End
Sonoma-based wine marketer Cecchetti Wine Company, which is approaching its fifth anniversary, says volume rose 40% in the 12 months through August and that sales will likely hit 350,000 cases for the current calendar year. Hooters 19th Annual Memorial Cup Golf Tournament Raises $130,000 to Fund Hooters Community Endowment Fund
Hooters will host the 19th annual Hooters Memorial Golf Tournament at the Marietta Country Club.  This year's tournament raised $130,000 to fund Hooters Community Endowment Fund (HOO.C.E.F) and will be used to benefit local and national charitable efforts.  The tournament is dedicated to preserving the memories of NASCAR Champion Alan Kulwicki and Hooters employees Mark Brooks, Dan Duncan and Charlie Campbell, whose lives were taken in a tragic airplane accident near Bristol, TN on April 1st, 1993.
