Restaurants Are High on Millennials’ Spending Lists
BCG's Center for Consumer and Customer Insight, in partnership with Service Management Group (SMG) and Barkley, surveyed 4,000 U.S. Millennials (defined as those 16 to 34 years old) and 1,000 non-Millennials (ages 35 to 74) to find out how their attitudes and spending habits differ. The results appear in a new article ,
which is available at bcgperspectives.com. According to the survey, U.S. Millennials love to spend on away-from-home food and fashion. They dine and shop in groups; crave exciting, exotic dining experiences and experiential, lifestyle shopping environments; want to share their experiences with friends; and exert a strong influence over others -- family, friends, and even total strangers -- thanks to their intense use of social media. Some Bars Offer a Taste of Pap’s Gin
AH, 1950: a very good year for Gordon’s gin. What’s that? Gordon’s gin is Gordon’s gin, you say, whether from 1950 or 2012. Spirits aren’t like wines, which vary from vintage to vintage and evolve over time. Distilled liquor is made from the same formula year after year, and once put in the bottle, it’s done — preserved in amber. MORE>>

Americans Rediscover the Kick of Hard Cider
A couple hundred years ago, hard apple cider used to be the drink of choice for thirsty Americans. It was easy to make and easy to find. But as people moved into cities, and beer became more popular, cider fell out of fashion. Now it's come roaring back. U.S. hard cider sales are up 65 percent over last year, and just about all the big beer companies sell it, as well as many artisan brewers. Finding cider at your local bar is often no longer a problem. MORE>>

California Rejects Labeling of Genetically Modified Food; Supporters Vow to Fight On
What a difference $46 million in TV ad spending can make. At least that was the consensus in the wee hours of the morning at the Yes on Proposition 37 party, held at a performance art space in San Francisco's Mission District, even before the final votes were tallied.
