Promo Power

Bar Wars

June 1, 2011 By: Jon Taffer

Along with a hospitality night, holding a bartending flair contest or "Bar Wars" with your local competition is a great traffic-building promotion that lets area bartending and wait staff show off their their skills while driving new customers to your bar or club.

Competitions don't always have to have serious undertones, in fact, consider team competitions such as tricycle races around the bar, basketball free-throwing competitions — wearing boxing gloves, of course — or keg rolling in the parking lot.

Certainly, these are all silly ways to get staff involved, but you can also take things in a different direction. Think about holding a bartender flair contest or a most-accurate-free-pouring competition. Other skill games could include an obstacle course for the wait staff carrying full trays and test their ability to remember multiple drink orders.

By hosting a bar competition, you are reinforcing your position in the market as the place for hospitality industry employees during their time off while also providing great entertainment for the regulars that follow them. Remember, liquor and beer distributors are perfect partners for this type of promotion.
