Galliano Turns “Golden Cadillac” to Golden Vespa with Nationwide Cocktail Contest
Galliano l’Autentico announced the winners of its nationwide challenge to create a new cocktail inspired by classic Galliano drinks such as the Harvey Wallbanger, Golden Cadillac, or the Yellow Bird – for a chance at winning a custom, Galliano-themed golden Vespa. The winners, representing New York, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles, each collected the most votes among entrants in their respective cities and are now the proud owners of a 2012 Vespa LX50. Winners dominated two rounds of judging: one by a Facebook fan vote narrowing contestants down to five in each market, and each city’s final five were judged by panelists locally to select one final winner per city. The USBG Selects New King of Mixology to Represent His Country in Race for "World's Most Imaginative Bartender"
On Monday, September 10, 50 of the top mixologists from the U.S. and Canada descended on Las Vegas for the Unites States Bartenders' Guild (USBG) Bartender Summit, sponsored by BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® gin and GQ Magazine, each of them having already proven themselves as their hometown's mixology master.  After two days of rigorous cocktail-making, the USBG announced Portland's Nathan Gerdes as the nation's "Most Imaginative Bartender."  Gerdes will be featured both inside and on a special edition cover of GQ Magazine's December 2012 Man of the Year issue alongside his cocktail, the Hanoi Strip Sour.  MORE>>


The Gleaner Jamaica: Bartender Challenge 2012
Over the past month the best bartenders across the island gave it their all to see who would represent Jamaica against bartenders from Mexico, the United States, Peru, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingston and the Cayman Islands in the finals to be held in Kingston next month. Five finalists - Sherica Morgan of OMG restaurant and bar represented Mandeville; Ryan Mitto of Bars to go represented Kingston; John Samuels of Grand Palladium; represented the Negril region; Cleverton Little of Pier One, for Montego Bay; and Gregory Shaw of Gran Bahia Principe, who won the Ocho Rios heat, gathered at the Knutsford Court hotel last Firday to shake, stir and blend their very best concoctions. Voxy: Team USA Wins 42Below Cocktail World Cup
After leading the points table all week and winning the first two challenges of the competition, Team USA has won the 42BELOW Cocktail World Cup 2012. Team USA is: Beckaly Franks from Clyde Common in Portland, Oregon, Steve Schneider from Employees Only and Macao Trading Company, New York and Ken Kodys from Breckenridge Brewery, Denver, Colorado. Team USA made not only a perfectly balanced and well executed drink but delivered a highly choreographed stage show. In keeping with the event’s theme ‘Lab Experiment’, their performance was inspired by American comic ‘The Incredible Hulk’, the ultimate scientific experiment gone wrong. MORE>>


Sunlive: Bartender Shakes Up Competition
A 19-year-old Tauranga bartender will take on the nation’s best cocktail makers after out-shining more than 300 other entrants to make it into the semi-finals of the New Zealand competition. Luke Wilson, who works at Za Bar on The Strand, did not think he would get this far when he entered The Beam Bar Legend but says he will make the most of the opportunity. Although he has only been bartending for less than two years, Luke jumped at the chance to enter the competition when he saw it on Facebook. MORE>>
