TouchTunes: Nearly 1 Million Paid Plays of Michael Jackson Songs Following Death

On June 25, music superstar Michael Jackson died, but his music is living on in bars across the country. In the days following his death, Jackson’s hits have become a must-play list for nighttime venues. According to data from TouchTunes, a music-on-demand supplier that has a library of more than 3 million titles, Jackson’s songs have been purchased on jukeboxes almost 1 million times since his death.

From June 25-July 6, there have been more than 700,000 paid jukebox plays in the U.S. alone; Canada’s TouchTunes machines have seen 17,345 paid plays, with many more likely following in the days after July 6.

In the entire TouchTunes network, the following songs made it into the Top 100:

1. “Billie Jean” – 90,508 plays
2. “Thriller” – 78,155 plays
4. “Beat It” – 58,089 plays
9. “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” – 41,793 plays
NA “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” – 39,068 plays
15. “Smooth Criminal” – 34,273 plays
21. “Man in the Mirror” – 30,856 plays
24. “Dirty Diana” – 27,748 plays
25. “The Way You Make Me Feel” – 27,106 plays
30. “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” – 25,987 plays
32. “Rock With You” – 25,653 plays
86. “Black or White” – 15,122 plays
95. “ABC” (by The Jackson 5) – 14,930 plays

In the U.S., the following songs made it into the Top 100:
