In Europe, at least, flavor scientists at Diageo are going full speed ahead with the task of creating and matching the quality of bar drinks with pre-mixed cocktails. This comes on the heels of a consumer shift to at-home consumption in the recession-hit Western markets. This month, the giant supplier is introducing the pre-bottled J&B Whisky Manhattan in Spain, and Pampero Rum Mojitos in Italy and Portugal. Technical advances by flavor companies have laid the foundations for Diageo's pre-bottled cocktail strategy.
Westin Hotels & Resorts introduced a selection of Mojitos inspired by SuperFoodsRX, a series of books about superfoods. The cocktails, created by Francesco Lafranconi, director of mixology for Southern Wine & Spirits of America, will be featured at more than 70 Westin properties across North America from July 1-Sept. 30 and use superfood ingredients including blueberries, ginger, green tea and honey. Each participating property will feature a classic Cuban Mojito made with fresh mint, rum and fresh lime alongside additional superfood-inspired Mojitos including the Blueberry Mojito, Pineapple and Ginger Mojito, Spicy Apple Mojito, Green Tea and Honey Mojito, Strawberry Kiwi Mojito and the Brazilian Cure Mojito, made with Brazilian rum and VeeV Acai Spirit.
