The National Restaurant Association inducted three new members to its board of directors last month including: Maribeth Bisienere, Vice President, Food & Beverage and Merchandise for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts; Geoff Hill, Vice President Roark Capital Group; and N.B. Forrest Shoaf, Chief Legal Officer of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc.
The National Restaurant Association Education Foundation named Lynette McKee as the new Executive Director. McKee will oversee the foundation, improving the foodservice industry’s service to the public through education, community engagement and career opportunity promotion.
The Aspen Food & Wine Festival always proves to be a hit. This year, Houston, Texas, food and beverage marketing firm Patrick Henry Creative Promotions, Inc. coordinated three special events: Bloody Mary’s, Bellini’s and Brunch held at Pacifica Seafood & Raw Bar Patio; ABSOLUT Aspen at Il Mulino; the 2nd Annual Aspen Frolf (frisbee golf) Invitational held on top of Aspen Mountain. Summer is here, which means new menus abound! Seasons 52 is offering its new summer food and cocktail menu, which features the Strawberry Coconut Skinny Martini, a blend of strawberry-infused vodka, coconut water and agave nectar. Two new wine-by-the glass varietals — Château Roustaing 2009, Bordeaux and Wrongo Dongo Mourvèdre — will be added to the menu, as well.
Smith & Wollensky also is offering lighter fare and drinks to fight the summer heat. The menu will highlight frozen hurricane cocktails such as the Banana Berry Colada, Fuzzy Peach, Watermelon Refresher and Summer Breeze.
Also, Applebee’s Grill & Bar is kicking off the summer with a few refreshing cocktails of its own: Berry Sangria (Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon, DeKuyper Razzmatazz, orange and cranberry juices, fresh orange and lime juices), Lemon Drop Martini (ABSOLUT Citron shaken with lemon, rimmed with sugar), Flavored Mojitos in strawberry, wildberry and mango flavors (Cruzan Rum muddled with fresh mint, lime juice and sugar, served over ice and topped with club soda) and Raspberry Meltdown Margarita (Sauza Gold Tequila, Applebee’s signature Margarita mix, blended with ice and topped with floater of DeKuyper Razzmatazz liqueur).
The coveted Silver Plate Award, which recognizes excellence in foodservice opearations, was presented to Buzz Beler, Founder and Owner of The Prime Rib in Washington, D.C. To celebrate the honor, The Prime Rib's new menu is offering three new silver-inspired cocktails to its menu: the Silver Margarita (Patron Silver, Patron Citronge, St-Germain, fresh lime juice), the Silver Bullet (Russian Standard Vodka, shaken and served straight up with cracked ice) and the Silver Daiquiri (Bacardi Silver, fresh lime juice, simple syrup).
The Paddington Corporation is merging with Pelican Brands, LLC to form Paddington Brands, LLC. Paddington owns Tequila 3 Amigos, Chase Distillery, Paddington Wines and the Napa Smith Brewery & Winery and is committed to rolling out both brands nationally in 2011.
