September 23, 2009 By: Emily Hanna Mayock

The grass just got a little greener on the other side of the border, as the InterContinental Montreal unveiled North America’s first absinthe bar, Sarah B. The bar was part of the hotel’s $14 million renovation project, and the bar’s look features Murano chandeliers, a 35-foot bar and velvet banquettes that exude an eclectic 19th century décor. Signature cocktails include the Jacques Cartier Collins (Versinthe, Absolut Pears, Limoncello, house sweet ’n’ sour mix and soda) and the Mojito a la Mode (Versinthe, Bacardi, house sweet ’n’ sour mix, strawberry purée, lemonade, basil and mint leaves). www.barsarahb.com.

This Saturday, Reno, Nev., becomes home to Xtreme Sports Bar + Lounge at the Grand Sierra Resort. The 24-hour sports tavern features a variety of dining selections, premium spirits and beers on tap. At the free opening event, Livfast, a freestyle motocross team, presents All In, a motocross event featuring riders from around the world, including Ryan Capes, who will attempt a record-breaking 300-foot ramp-to-ramp jump. The bar features 25 high-definition, 42-inch plasma TVs, one 12-by-8-foot LCD HD projection screen and a 50-plus speaker sound system. www.grandsierraresort.com.

Panama City Beach, Fla.’s Club La Vela celebrated its 25th anniversary on Saturday, holding a public party at the well-known hotspot. The 6,000-person, multi-room venue started as a small beach club and concert hall in 1984 and has achieved nationwide recognition in large part because of a media push that had La Vela hosting dozens of broadcasts with MTV, TNT, VH1, the Travel Channel and E! Television. www.clublavela.com.

This Friday marks the grand opening event of celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse’s new sports bar and sportsbook, Lagasse’s Stadium, inside the Palazzo in Las Vegas. The invitation-only Ultimate Tailgate Event will feature a “green carpet” of sports turf and will welcome athletes, celebrities and sports fans to check out Lagasse’s game-day cuisine. The 551-seat venue features stadium seating, luxury boxes, more than 100 high-definition TVs, sports betting stations, video poker machines and blackjack and craps tables. www.palazzolasvegas.com/lagasse.aspx.
