Bloody Mary’s 75th Benefits Share Our Strength
Restaurants in the nation’s capital are joining together to celebrate the birthday of one of the nation’s favorite drinks: the Bloody Mary.
Created 75 years ago at the St. Regis New York by bartender Fernand Petiot, the Bloody Mary (later renamed the “Red Snapper” to better fit the hotel’s elegant clientele) became the signature cocktail of the St. Regis. So this month, the St. Regis Washington, D.C., is joining with D.C. area chefs and restaurants, including Charlie Palmer, Spike Mendelsohn, Art Smith, Todd Gray of Equinox, Acadiana, Adour at The St. Regis Washington, D.C., and Dale DeGroff to celebrate the cocktail. The contributors are lending their personal Bloody Mary recipes to be included on a special anniversary menu in The Bar at The St. Regis Washington, D.C., throughout October. Twenty five percent of the proceeds from the menu will benefit Share Our Strength, an organization working to end childhood hunger in America.
The Red Snapper Original Recipe:
1 ounce vodka
2 ounces tomato juice
1 dash lemon juice
2 dashes salt
2 dashes black pepper
2 dashes cayenne pepper
3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
