Portland Cocktail Week, BarSmarts Ireland and Tanqueray 10/10/10October 19, 2010 By: Jack Robertiello
New York, London, San Francisco — now Portland is stepping up with its own cocktail week. In conjunction with the city’s annual Great American Distiller’s Festival, the former PDX Cocktail Invitational is expanding to a full four days of seminars, parties, spirit tastings, networking opportunities and bartender competitions. “It is our aim to highlight the best in distillation, engaging bartending and inventive mixology, all wrapped up in the beauty and hospitality of the Pacific Northwest,” according to the site, where you can find details about the first event (held Oct. 20-24) at www.portlandcocktailweek.com.
In September, Pernod Ricard took the BarSmarts Bartender Education, Training and Certification program to Dublin, Ireland, where 114 bartending hopefuls participated in the first BarSmarts Advanced program to be held outside the U.S. The program culminated in BarSmarts LIVE, a full-day program of instruction, education, mixology, testing and formal certification for the BarSmarts Advanced program’s top performers.
