August 31, 2009

DENVER (August 28, 2009) – Denver Beer Fest, September 18-27, 2009, will attract brew-aficionados from around the world for more than 100 beer-related events, from brew tastings and tappings to beer-paired dinners at many of the city’s top restaurants and attractions. Sponsored by VISIT DENVER, The Convention & Visitors Bureau, Denver Beer Fest includes such popular Mile High City favorites as the 40th Annual Oktoberfest on Larimer Street in the Ballpark neighborhood and the Great American Beer Festival, but also adds more than 100 new beer-centric events to the lineup.

“For more than 25 years, Denver has been known as the epicenter of the American craft brewing industry because of the Great American Beer Festival – the most prestigious beer competition in the country,” states Richard Scharf, president & CEO of VISIT DENVER. “This year, we decided to build on that reputation by adding dozens of new beer-related events that will give visitors and residents a reason to explore our restaurants, brewpubs, breweries and attractions.”

Some of the new beer events include:

·         Three- to five-course, beer-paired dinners at Vesta Dipping Grill, Panzano, Oceanaire, Elway’s Downtown, Rialto Café, WaterCourse, Dixons, Appaloosa Grill, TAG and more of Denver’s finest restaurants
·         Drink a beer to help save a gorilla at the Goosetown Tavern, a fund-raiser with Silverback Smoked Porter to help support the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund
·         Meet the brewer nights at various locations offering an opportunity to discuss beer with the brewmasters from MillerCoors, Avery, Oskar Blues, Boulder Beer, Great Divide and more
·         “Blessing of the Tap Handles,” a special ceremony to add eight new tap handles at the Cheeky Monk

Festivities will kick off with a special beer tapping and reading of a proclamation by Denver Mayor (and former brewpub owner) John Hickenlooper at 5 p.m., Friday, September 18, during Oktoberfest – 20th and Larimer streets. Details are currently being arranged for a short mini-beer parade down Larimer Street at that time. More information to come.
