Bourbon and Rye Cocktail Creations For Your Fall Menu

Bourbon is the sweetest form of whiskey. Why, you ask? Because it's made with corn and corn is a sweet grain; the more corn, the sweeter the whiskey. Rye on the other hand, is a little trickier to define because while many think that to be considered a rye, the whiskey must be made up primarily of rye-mash but that is not always the case. There are no actual rules regarding how rye is made and today, it can be produced with a mash with a corn to rye ration as high as 9:1.

At any rate kill two birds with one stone this fall and satisfy your customers' sweet tooth and their love for whiskey by serving up some of these delicious bourbon and rye cocktails.

Kingdom Come

1 part Basil Hayden's Bourbon
1 part Cocci Americano
1 part Campari
1⁄4 part Ginger Juice

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

Kingdom Come

Whiskey Barrel Punch

1/2 oz. Bottle Russell Reserve 6 Year Old Rye
2 1/2 oz. Super Fine Sugar
8 oz. Lemon juice
4 1/2 oz. Small Hand Foods Grenadine
4 Dashes Angostura bitters
Sparkling Wine

Combine all ingredients together and top with sparkling wine or Champagne.

Barrel Punch

1 oz. Wild Turkey Bourbon 101
3/4 oz. Wild Turkey Bourbon 81
3/4 oz. Ginger Liqueur
1 dash Angostura Bitters
1 dash Xocolatl Mole Bitters

Stir all ingredients, strain and serve in a coup and garnish with an orange twist.

Bitter Sweet Manhattan

1 1/2 oz. Bourbon
1 1/2 oz. TY KU Citrus Liquer
3/4 oz. Simple Syrup
Splash of  Orange Juice
Dash of bitters

Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of orange.

Bitter Sweet Manhattan

The Rye Manhattan

1 oz. Bulleit Rye
1/4 oz. Sweet Vermouth
3 dash Angostura Bitters

Stir. Strain. Serve over ice in a rocks glass with a lemon twist.

Bulleit Rye Manhatten

The Adonis

1/2 oz. Rich Strawberry Syrup
1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
1.5 oz. Bulleit Bourbon
3/4 oz. LeSUTRA Strawberry Liqueur
1/4 oz. Campari

Combine all ingredients, shake and strain, poured over a large ice cube for the gents or martini up for the ladies. Garnish with a bruised mint sprig and fanned strawberry.

The Adonis

The Firefly Bourbon Sour

3 3/4 oz. Firefly Sweet Tea Flavored Bourbon
2 1/4 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
3/4 oz. simple syrup
Orange Slice
Cherry

Shake Firefly, lemon juice and simple syrup. Strain into highball glass and garnish with orange slice and cherry.

Firefly Bourbon Sour

American Margarita

2 oz. Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania White Rye
1 oz. Triple Sec
1-1/2 oz. Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
1/2 oz. Ginger Liqueur or Cointreau floater (optional)
1 Lime Wedge (for garnish)

Add all ingredients (except liqueur) over ice in a shaker. Shake and strain into cocktail glass on the rocks or up. Float liqueur on top. Garnish with lime.

American Margarita

Whiskey Smash

2 oz. Wild Turkey 101
3/4 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
8-10 Mint Leaves
1/2 oz. Oleo-Sacchrum*
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

Add all ingredients to mixing tin with ice. Shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice. Garnish with mint sprig.
