Keep It Simple: Six Second Video!April 1, 2013 By: Dave Dronkers
This is the year that you must differentiate from your competitors through pictures and video content. Many have asked “how long should a video be?” Well, now you have no choice but to create a short six second video through this new app called VINE.
Vine is a mobile app by Twitter that enables its users to create and post short video clips. Video clips created with Vine have a maximum length of six seconds and can be shared on a variety of social networking services, such as Twitter or Facebook.
Last month, Twitter launched the video sharing platform as a separate phone app from Twitter. Twitter has publicized its new mobile service as a way to “capture life in motion.” Currently, only iPhone and iPod users can shoot videos on Vine; Android users can browse the app, but not shoot video.
As the app’s widespread popularity grows, companies are taking advantage. Taco Bell, for instance, centered its account on the March 6 launch of its Cool Ranch Doritos Loco Taco. With only four videos, Taco Bell has already acquired 5,900 followers.
Best practices for Vine are similar to best practices for most social media networks:
- Engage your followers
- Post relevant and consistent content
- Connect with your fans through likes and comments, especially if they post videos related to your brand
Taco Bell’s videos are quirky, funny and directly involve their fans. One video showcases Taco Bell goers trying a Cool Ranch Taco for the first time, using the hashtag #CoolRanchDLT to make the videos searchable. In another video, Taco Bell employs a stop motion technique to make it seem as if the Doritos are moving by themselves. Taco Bell also appeases its followers by inviting them to make their own videos and liking their videos. Since the Cool Ranch Tacos have already debuted, it will be interesting to see what Taco Bell comes up with next!
As Vine’s blog puts it, “Posts on Vine are about abbreviation — the shortened form of something larger. They're little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They're quirky, and we think that's part of what makes them so special.”
Just remember to keep it simple – you only have six seconds to say everything you want!
