Stray Away From The Ales On National Lager Day!December 10, 2013 By: Mary-Kate Dunphy
Calling all beer lovers: Today is National Lager Day! While I do enjoy a nice cocktail once in a while, I will forever be a beer girl so this holiday is right up my alley – one of my favorites being Sam Adams Boston Lager.
Lagers make up the largest portion of beer sales year after year and are surely the most ordered beers at your bar. Even with the emergence of multiple craft beers that indulge taste buds with rich and flavorful brews; lagers continue to dominate with Bud Light being at the top of the domestic lager category.
While lagers are also the dominant style of beer worldwide, it was introduced to the United States in 1840, which, believe it or not, makes it relatively new to the beer scene. Due to this introduction, the American craft beer revolution made its way to the forefront and today, on National Lager Day, we give lager its due.
The competitiveness of craft beer in the United States has increased significantly over the years. There are more breweries in the US today than ever before and this year, more than 1,600 breweries are planning to open; consequently chipping away at the dominant lagers category.
Therefore, in order to give lager the credit it deserves, encourage your customers to celebrate National Lager Day! It just so happens that lager goes perfectly with a variety of meals, so try pairing one with the best-selling dish on your menu! Inspire patrons to experiment because there are numerous different kinds and there is no better day to do this than on National Lager Day!
