Even Bosses Need A Little Love

National Bosses Day (Today, October 16) gives workers a chance to show appreciation for hard working supervisors.

Now, I work for one of the most recognizable and demanding individual in the bar business, Jon Taffer. Everyone knows him as the in-your-face personality on the hit show Bar Rescue; however he also runs a consulting agency, Taffer Dynamics, the Nightclub & Bar Media Group and just released his first book, Raise The Bar.   But, even with his hectic schedule Jon is an amazing boss and the best one I’ve ever had.

Nonetheless, we have all had our good bosses and our bad bosses over the years.  But what makes a good boss? Especially a boss in the ever-demanding hospitality industry?

Is it enthusiasm? Drive? The willingness to try new ideas presented by subordinates?

I believe that what makes a great working relationship is personal communication, positivity and a goal oriented structure. It takes a lot of savvy to manage a bar or nightclub well and not everyone can pull it off. However, you can’t run a venue or any business alone.

So, today on National Bosses Day employees and managers should work to improve their relationship with their counterparts.  Success is dependent on the team! Not the individual.
