Fourteen of the world’s foremost distilled spirits authorities are descending upon New York’s Astor Center March 5-9 to rate the world’s finest gins, whiskeys, tequilas, rums, vodkas, brandies and liqueurs at Ultimate Beverage Challenge’s 2012 Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Led by Judging Chairmen F. Paul Pacult and Sean Ludford, this group of authors, spirits buyers, journalists, educators, bar owners and consultants will render unassailable results.
Says UBC Judging Chairman and founding member Paul Pacult, “Ultimate Spirits Challenge judges for 2012 have been chosen for their consistent judging excellence over the last two years at both Ultimate Spirits Challenge and Ultimate Cocktail Challenge. Many are buyers who, together, purchase many thousands of cases of spirits each year. Consequently, if I happened to be a spirits producer or marketer, this is the elite group of genuine and acknowledged experts that I’d demand to evaluate my product. Could I use a USC Chairman’s Trophy or a healthy score to promote my spirit? Oh yeah.”

The Manhattan Cocktail Classic, New York City's annual five-day celebration of cocktails and culture, is gearing up to ignite the city once again for the third annual festival, taking place May 11-15. Anticipating more than 10,000 attendees and attracting top-tier mixologists from around the globe, this decadent, booze-fueled flurry of nearly 100 parties, pairings, tastings, and educational events is not to be missed. Tickets go on sale March 15 at noon ET.
The soon-to-be-revealed festival calendar includes some ambitious additions on deck for 2012, in addition to the flagship events and activities that have defined the Classic to date. The now-legendary opening night Gala will once again take over The New York Public Library, filling its storied halls with over 3,500 well-heeled guests, over 40,000 hand-crafted cocktails and more merriment, mischief, and mayhem than ever before. Tickets are $150.
Also at the Classic will be daytime educational offerings in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island; tickets range in price from $25 to $125.
The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Whisky announced today the launch of The Balvenie Rare Craft Fellowship — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for American craftsmen across the country to earn a money-can't-buy trip to Scotland to spend time at the legendary distillery and apprentice under another local craftsman of their choosing. Additionally, one craftsman will receive a $5,000 award toward materials, and four additional craftsmen will receive a $2,000 award and a trip to New York to showcase their work.
Craftsmen selected to participate in this Fellowship will be discovered over the course of the 2012 Balvenie Rare Craft Roadshow, when the Balvenie Brand Ambassador Nicholas Pollacchi will hit the road in a custom hand-built Morgan sports car in search of the workshops, lofts, studios and stores where the American craft revival is taking place and celebrating the craftsmen who are leading that revival. The nationwide road trip will continue 2011's search for craftsmen and artisans across America, all of whom will also be considered for the experience.
Interested craftsmen, as well as those who wish to nominate someone, are encouraged to sign up immediately at http://www.thebalvenie.com/nominate for this rare and singular opportunity.
