Duncan Cameron Named Executive Director of WAABISeptember 1, 2009
August 31, 2009.....The World Association of the Alcohol Beverage Industries (WAABI) has announced the appointment of Duncan Cameron of Fredericksburg, Virginia as its new Executive Director. Duncan has been actively involved with WAABI since the 1970s and in 1990 became the first male ever named to the WAABI Board of Directors. He has served as National Newsletter Editor since then, and served several terms as President of the Metro DC Chapter of WAABI, and as their Golf Committee Chairman in recent years. He was the recipient of the prestigious Spirit of WAABI Award for 2009.
Duncan is a veteran of the alcohol beverage industry, having joined a predecessor of today’s Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. (DISCUS) in 1971, where he rose to the position of DISCUS’ Director of Communications prior to leaving to form his own consulting practice in 1986. Since then he has provided services to several beverage industry organizations. He continues to serve as Treasurer and Administrator of the Sky Ranch Foundation, a post he has held since 1988. His monthly SpiritScope column appears in several beverage industry trade magazines each month.
In announcing the appointment, WAABI President Paul Houston, Plant Manager of the Beam Global Spirits & Wine Cincinnati facility, praised Duncan’s broad industry knowledge and experience . “We’re thrilled to have Duncan step in as Executive Director at this time. He’s well equipped to help WAABI implement new initiatives aimed at sharpening our focus and building our value to the alcohol beverage industry, to industry employees, and to communities nationwide. Duncan is a native of New York City and a 1970 Graduate of New York University’s School of Commerce with a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Industrial Relations. A former Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, Duncan has lived in Fredericksburg with his wife and partner, Young, since 1993.
