Raising Glasses and Awareness
The bartenders created signature cocktails, the Red
Ribbon Tini and the Red Cent Bellini, both using sponsor spirits and
selling for $5 each, and one lucky patron took home the raffle prize of
a stay at the Kimpton Hotel in San Francisco and round-trip airfare.
With the tag line “every red cent counts,” more
than $3,600 dollars was raised from the combination of door donations,
cocktail sales, raffle tickets and an auctioned painting — all helping
a great cause and giving the Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant chain great
crediblity.
In a coast-to-coast effort to raise awareness, World
AIDS Day was begun in 1985 and every year helps fight the disease
through donations and the dissemination of knowledge, compassion and
hope. For the third year in a row, the Kimpton chain became involved
with hosting charity events on World AIDS Day, one of the most
successful of which was the event at Bar Rouge in Washington D.C.
Called Red Hot Relief, the cocktail hour was
scheduled from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., but guests were enjoying themselves
so much the reception stretched until 9 p.m. With the support of Moët
Chandon Champagne, Absolut and Level vodkas, the bar welcomed 150
supporters of the cause through the door that evening, each giving the
suggested donation of $10 or more.
“We had the piece of artwork which was very key,” Manager Mike Hill says. |
