Profit in the Playlist
Connecting with Patrons — And Their Friends
Downloading jukeboxes aren’t news, but TouchTunes has set out to
deliver boxes that take the concept a step or two further — even as far
as inviting new patrons via now standard communications such as text
messaging.
Personalized Music
TouchTunes provides jukeboxes for bars and other establishments
that, for one thing, give patrons the freedom to choose from a master
playlist.
“We’re trying to provide an upgrade for bar and tavern owners,”
says Dan McAllister, senior vice president of sales for the company.
“We’re very focused on that. Our music catalog and music department is
committed.”
TouchTunes combines touchscreen interface technology with a vast
music selection and a Bose sound system. The company aims to be at the
curve of how consumers expect to listen to music.
“If you just throw a bunch of music in by a download system, or
even use XM or Sirrius, you’re just hoping you get the music your
customers want to hear,” McAllister says. “You don’t know if you are or
you aren’t. TouchTunes actually allows patrons and owners and managers
to make their own playlists. They can customize those playlists.
There’s really no limitations to what they can do. There’s a lot of
flexibility in the music system.”
Connecting to New Customers
One of the features that is integrated into TouchTunes jukeboxes is
that when a person goes into any bar that has a TouchTunes box, he or
she can log into his or her TouchTunes account and access a “Buddy
List” that follows the person everywhere. This allows the patron to
send either a text or e-mail to his friends on the list telling them
he’s at that bar and inviting them to come over.
“We’re trying to provide as much value as we can at the location to
bring people into a bar,” McAllister says. “It’s not a passive, one-way
music system. We try to have it be interactive.”
The Products
TouchTunes calls the Maestro II “the world’s most versatile
wall-mounted digital jukebox” and promises that it provides the best
selection of music selection on the market. Other attributes include
top-shelf sound quality, a colorful touch-screen and a programmed LED
light display.
Maestro II gives the end user a choice of thousands of songs and
instant access to nearly limitless additional selections through
TouchTunes’ Tune Central.
Big and bold, the new Ovation wall-mounted digital jukebox makes
its presence felt. Features include a 19-inch, LCD touchscreen monitor
— the largest in the industry — with a viewable area 60 percent larger
than the typical screen display.
The Ovation has advanced electronic components including the
fanless computer and fanless digital amp for improved performance and
operating reliability.
The Allegro’s hallmark is its visual aspect; patrons can watch the
beat of the music with an energetic, stroboscopic lightshow and the
digital on-screen animations, all managed by a proprietary, fanless CPU
system.
