GABF’s Golden Celebration

When Charlie Papazian founded The Great American Beer Festival in 1982, Boulder Beer Co. brewed a special high gravity ale to celebrate the inaugural event. For the Silver Anniversary of what has become one of the world’s premier beer showcases, the company brewed one of Papazian’s recent favorite recipes that  the company is calling The GABF 25th Year Beer.    With a rich golden hue, this brew has plenty of British Pale Malt for a high original gravity. This ale is assertively hopped in the kettle for a smooth, balanced flavor, then dry-hopped with more than a dash of Saaz hops in the fermenter, lending it a unique floral aroma.
One of the original 22 breweries at the first GABF, Boulder Beer Co. has been back every year. “We are thrilled to raise a glass in celebration of the flavor and diversity of American Craft Beer,” said Brewmaster David Zuckerman.
This limited edition, single batch brew was released in late August in 22-ounce bottles wherever Boulder Beer is distributed.

Female Security Rises
There’s a growing trend in the industry today, and as a nightclub or bar owner or manager, it could have a substantial impact on business.
As reported in Newsweek recently,  the face of club security may be changing –– literally. More female bouncers are being hired by owners than ever before, and this poses an interesting question: are the days of the large, agressive male bouncer coming to an end? In all likelihood, the answer is no, but Nightclub & Bar posed this question to Robert Smith, president of Hospitality & Security Alliance Inc., for his take.
“Females are typically raised not to be violent,” Smith said. “They don’t need to prove that they’re tough. So, as bouncers, they’re adept at being great mediators and diffusing situations. Why not have a smart, articulate female at the front of your venue to set a first impression?”
Smith adds that a bouncer generally doesn’t have to do anything that could be dangerous alone, either.
As women’s numbers have increased in the military and law enforcement, it follows that they are growing in nightclubs and bar security, as well.

After a four year hiatus, probably spent entertaining young women on the beaches of Monaco, James Bond will return to the screen in the upcoming EON Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment production of Casino Royale, set to release November 17, 2006.  The return of Bond also will mark the return of another icon, Smirnoff Vodka, as James Bond’s vodka of choice.
   The renewed alliance between
Smirnoff and Bond will involve a fully integrated multi-million dollar media campaign, which will be activated in the United States and around the globe.  The campaign will include a broadcast advertising campaign; on-premise promotions and sweepstakes, a global public relations campaign and a fully interactive Casino Royale microsite.
The close partnership between Smirnoff Vodka and Bond began in 1962’s “Dr. No” when the villain hands Sean Connery a “Martini, shaken not stirred” made with Smirnoff Vodka.
