Seven Solid November Promotions
Profits Way Easier to Make Thank Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving falls on the 23rd this year, and Nightclub & Bar thought it would give operators out there seven holiday tips for making November 2006 the best yet. These should bring in a collective week of profits — just one more thing to be thankful for!

November 1: National Authors Day
Invite a well-known published author to the bar for a night of book signings and short readings. Post flyers at local booksellers, libraries, universities and on your Myspace.com page. Offer a few signature drinks such as the Hemingway, created by Chef Michael MacDonnell of Olives at The Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas.
The Hemingway
1 ounce Mount Gay Rum
1/2 ounce Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
2 ounces sour mix
3/4 ounce grapefruit juice
Twist of lemon
Combine all ingredients except the lemon twist in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and mix well. Strain the liquid into a chilled glass and garnish with a spiraled lemon twist. Courtesy of www.StarChefs.com

November 3: Dear Santa Letter
To get people in the holiday spirit, have them fill out a Dear Santa Letter. These should be done in the style of the old kids game Mad Libs. Have your bartender grab a microphone on occasion to hush the crowd and read out the funniest. To get started, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madlibs.

November 4: Sadie Hawkins Dance
Encourage ladies to bring their crush to your bar for an old-school crush party. Hand out  stamped postcards in your bar offering one free drink upon presentation of the postcard on the night of the party. Make sure you have a phone book handy, and let the ladies send out an anonymous invitation to their crushes a week ahead of time from your bar.

November 7: Russia’s October Revolution
We have no idea why the  October Revolution is in November, but you can make a profit. Go Moscow for the night by changing your menu to flaming (Molotov) cocktails and making use of red and black décor. Don’t forget to discount the White and Black Russians!

November 19: Have a Bad Day
This is an actual holiday. Take your rest from providing such sparkling customer service for the night. Have your bartenders, hostesses, door guys and waitstaff be rude for a change, but make sure to keep it fun. To get started, visit www.wellcat.com.

November 25: Bouncing Back from Black Friday
The day after Thanksgiving is the largest shopping day of the year. Do you know what the day after that is? Well, it could be your largest bar day of the month. Do some extreme advertising, contact a couple of beverage sponsors and a great live band. Offer a cash prize for the individual who comes in with the largest dollar amount on one receipt from shopping on November 24th. If you have the budget to do it, offering to match the dollar amount on the largest spenders receipt is a surefire way to pull in patrons.
