Ubiquitously Unique
A Moulin Rouge Restaurant Meets Bohemian Bar
In the world of restaurants and bars, the brutal battle for the title of best establishment never ends.
Cheeky cocktail lounges, crammed nightclubs, Scotch-soaked cigar bars, and nouveau restaurants all strive to conquer the industry and be known as the king of the ever-broadening nightlife scene.
But with each emerging trend, establishments are often washed away in a tidal wave of swank that leaves the victims out of style and forgotten by the masses. The secret for success in this trend-chasing world is to be unforgettably unique while providing the most consistent and quality service in the business. Amid all the competition, there is one establishment carrying such a tremendous yet unpretentious crown: The Loring Pasta Bar in Minneapolis.
Curiously Alluring
Defined as a world of whimsical fantasy, eclectic beauty and definitive style and service, the Loring Pasta Bar breaks all barriers as far as unforgettable experiences are concerned. Located offLoring Park in funky Dinkytown, this restaurant and nightclub exudes such an intoxicating visual persona and tangible energy that it is an entity in itself. From the mesmerizing waves of worn brick that slink along the long bar to the carefully crafted tiling that gives the floor a psychedelic yet pacifying flow, every aspect of the Loring’s design is in perfect harmony with owner Jason Mclean’s ambitious conceptual plans.
“Jason is the sole visionary, and a lot of his own blood, sweat and tears went into creating the Loring Pasta Bar,” General Manager Pamela Nesheim says. “He’s just has a one-of-a-kind eye for design and the way things should naturally come together.”
As a man who finds a muse in every aspect of life — from childhood memories to European excursions — Mclean innately harnessed his inspirations to create an establishment that offers patrons an extraordinary experience. Fine wine, superb homemade pasta, and an extensive beer selection are complemented by the surroundings.
Elegant cathedral ceilings framed by assiduous steel beams suspend three stories above a whirlpool of diverse diners, luscious plants, brick archways and hand-painted mosaics. Ironwork in the bathroom appears to writhe along the walls like a slithering black vine. Authentic Oriental rugs around the seating area and antique candelabras on the canvas-covered tables create an alluring atmosphere that oozes comfort, class and quirky charm.
“The Loring is an elegant, wonderful place, but it’s not exclusive,” Nesheim says. “The vision was to create a place where people could come to enjoy a delicious and affordable meal, relax and have some drinks, and listen to live music.”
Eclectic Excellence
Five nights a week, different musicians who specialize in everything from Jazz to Salsa bring the Loring’s stage to life. Local legend Cornbread Harris fills the Loring with the sounds of swinging Jazz and gritty Blues on most Wednesdays and Thursdays. When Harris is not available, saxophonist John Devine — who also books music at the Loring — fills in. Friday and Saturday nights sizzle with live Salsa, fiery dancers, specialty cocktails and lots of Corona. The whirlwind of musical genres is brought to an end with a tribute to Tango on Sunday nights.
With live music, poetry readings, remarkable art and mouthwatering beverages and cuisine, the Loring is truly a modern cabaret. Every aspect of the establishment has been refined to create a unique form of perfection, and customers are blown away by such an entertaining and beautiful experience. NCB
