Let the Sales Season Begin!
It appears there are few slow periods in the life of a bar owner, especially one of a sports-oriented venue. The calendar brings with it seemingly limitless days and nights of pool, darts and coin-op competitions for patrons. Bikini and bull-riding contests, live music, drink specials, baseball, boxing, horse and auto racing — there always is plenty of action for patrons, right? This is true, but there is a time when Mondays may be slow, and even the weekends can be less than stellar. Then the fall begins.
The tail end of summer and the build-up to fall puts as much action on the table and behind the bar as any wants-to-be-successful sports bar owner could hope for. They put a strong and steady gust of profitable wind into the sails — and sales — of an outfit, and owners rejoice at the revenue they can reap from guests hungry for tasty eats and good games on the television sets around them.
However, while the action heats up from football’s pre-season through the MLB’s World Series to the grand-daddy of them all, the NFL Super Bowl, just opening up doors, turning on TVs and pouring pitchers won’t win the greenback game. Check out this special sports bar section and take a timeout to plan a new and more creative seasonal strategy. Make sure your bar’s staff is warmed up and knows all of the plays and promotions, your distributors are on your team and your food and beverage program is prepared. It’s almost time to earn an “A” from the two greatest F’s of the fall — football fun — the focus of this issue’s sports spectacular.
