By Mitch Morgan
Frozen Foods
have taken on gourmet distinction under the direction of long-time, Wisconsin-based distributor McCain Foods.
What began humbly in 1957 since has mushroomed into one of the world’s leading suppliers of frozen and non-frozen goods not limited to just small potatoes. The culinary giant hosts an array of new items — from pizza, snack foods, beverages and desserts — to satiate the appetite of even the pickiest, calorie-conscious bar-goers.
Business & Menu Expansion
McCain Foods’ recent acquisition of Jon-Lin Foods of Colton, Calif., ushers in a premium variety of sautéed, grilled and fire-roasted vegetables, as well as new additions to an already expansive list of appetizers. The company’s global base spans across the map and includes facilities as far away as Taiwan, Australia and South Africa, not to mention its four potato processing facilities and six manufacturers within the United States.
Expanding its line to accommodate international cuisine, McCain now features both South American and Caribbean appetizers. The company also has implemented new twists on old favorites that have emerged out of both regions while continuing to offer a tremendous, flavorful variety of classic staples such as cheesy jalapeno Anchor Poppers, a beer-battered assortment of fries, onion rings and much more.
'It's been proven that operators who include Poppers on their menu generally increase profits.'
— Sherri Sparks, assistant brand manager, McCain Foods
Profits are Popping
The growing corporation recently dreamed up new ways of boosting server sales through the introduction of its Arcade Classics promotion that rewards top sellers with handheld versions of nostalgic video games including Pac-Man, Asteroids, Centipede and Super Breakout. Operators also may take advantage of a $7 rebate per case of Poppers appetizers for up to a $150 purchase (with a minimum order of seven cases). Customers, too, will take delight in receiving Save $1 arcade-style tokens for use during their next purchase of the popular snack item.
"Anchor Poppers are ethe 'original fun food,' so there's a fun promotion to go along with it," says Sherri Sparks, assistant brand manager for McCain Foods. "The theme of a fun gaming promotion seemed to be in line with the theme of the brand."
The successes of similar promotions have fared quite well, boosting sales for both the major corpouration and its multinational customer base.
"It's been proven that operators who include Poppers on their menu generally increase profits," Sparks says. The opportunity for operators to become aquainted with the McCain line has never been more practical, given that the seller discounts apply to all participating vendors.
The limited promotion runs from July 1, 2006 through September 30, 2006. Arriving just shy of the supplier's golden anniversary as a leader of the pack in the foodservice industry , it is perfect timing for consumers and on-premise operators and sellers to earn a little something extra while feasting on the success of the Anchor Poppers brand name.
