Looking Back, Looking Forward

I’ve sat in this chair now for a year, after a good stint as co-pilot of a fast-moving magazine that does, indeed, resemble a jet carrying trustful passengers. The destination of this flight, however, is one of profit, but that in itself represents paradise to most of us in the industry. But, of course, we all take the job of having fun quite seriously.
Season in and season out, I can rattle off umpteen ways to inquisitive persons of how and why there are so many on-premise opportunities on which to explore and capitalize — new ones earn their share of the limelight each day. Still, right now is the season that traditionally promises the most, in this industry or any other, and that’s what spring is all about.
We’re ready for fresh ideas, inspiration and motivation — and so are bar guests. Patios beckon, blenders become synonymous with Happy Hour and the early results of some ambitious tanning seem to make the crowds mingle more. Spring sports (see page 63) offer a solid foundation for promotions, and Cinco de Mayo (what I consider to be the mark of summer’s arrival) is virtually here. You’ll want to check out our May Day Olé feature for ideas on that one. All in all, it’s time for patrons to work hard and play hard, and it’s time for operators nationwide to do the same.
So, seize this chance to welcome new faces along with the warming days and hopeful tax returns, and I hope most of you are able to implement now the ideas you took home with you from “The Show” in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. The future is here, and it’s a bright one.

Cheers,

Corrections: In the February issue, some information for Shaw-Ross International Importers in the Spirits on the Move feature (page 48) was incorrect. The company does not carry the Davidoff Cognac brand. Also, on page 20 of the March issue, Crobar Worldwide’s operating partner is Bob Myers, not Ben Myers. We regret the errors.
