Grinnell Promoted at Boston Beer Co
David Grinnell, longtime director of brewing and quality at The Boston Beer Co., has been promoted to vice president of brewing.
Grinnell joined founder and brewer Jim Koch in 1988, just three years after the first case of Samuel Adams Boston Lager rolled out of the brewery. The two have worked closely together and helped Samuel Adams catalyze the craft beer movement, making traditionally brewed, flavorful beer in America. Today, The Boston Beer Co. brews 21 different styles of beer, including Samuel Adams Utopias, a brew that the company says pushes the very boundary of beer.
In addition to overseeing the brewing, leading the brewing team and developing new recipes, Grinnell travels the world researching and sourcing the world's finest ingredients, including the brewery's signature Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops. Over two decades he has forged friendships and business relationships with brewers, hop and barley farmers, and beer aficionados in many countries.
Announcing the promotion, Koch said, "For almost 20 years David has consistently set incredibly high standards for everyone who works with him. I am proud of every beer that we've ever brewed, and we owe much of this to the passion that David brings to his job."
